So 2019 was to be the culmination of Mike’s senior open experience, playing at the 2019 US Senior Open beneath the beloved Golden Dome, his father and brother’s alma mater, the place where he sends tuition for two kids next year. Instead, Mike gets a humility lesson and fails to qualify at Lone Palm Golf Club in Lakeland, FL on May 30. Close but no cigar.
So lemons=lemonade for the Team Finster. There’s another big open–THE Senior Open across the pond, to be held this year at Royal Lytham & St. Anne’s in Lancashire, England July 25-28. (AKA the Senior British Open.) Mike will be there on Monday, July 22 to play a qualifying round at Fairhaven in Lytham, England. Play well and he’ll be back among the big boys later that week.
I caught Mike today practicing his links golf techniques at his home course, Royal and Ancient Mangrove Bay.
Yeah, I don’t think the Queen goes for flip flops on the golf course.
