Great first day for Mike Finster

Mike had 15 great holes Thursday.  Unfortunately they play 18, so Mike finished +6 with three straight double bogeys to end the round.  Word from both Mike and Marybeth is that the course is super hard.  The rough and some very non-Florida-like bunkers showed their teeth in the last three holes (7, 8, and 9 for Mike, who started on 10).  Mike reports that he is third in driving distance.

Here’s family geared up for a long day in the heat.

Watch Finster on TV

There are a lot of opportunities to watch the US Senior Open on TV and online.  See below for schedule.  I’m thinking we need to have a watch party this weekend.  Every time the announcer says “roofing salesman from St. Petersburg, FL” everybody has to take a drink.

Finster in the News

From the Sacramento Bee:

Opinion: With golf, an old(ish) Mike Finster can still pursue young dream

Finster, 50, joins Tom Watson, Bernhard Langer at U.S. Senior Open

He’s made the Del Paso Country Club event a family affair

Regardless of finish, he’s winning at life
